PostEx Shipment Journey: Every Tracking Step
A step-by-step look at how an online order travels through PostEx in Pakistan: what happens at each stop, when scans are made, and what each update tells you.

What Happens Behind Each Tracking Update
A tracking update looks like a simple line of text. But each one means a person has done something real with your parcel.
Each time a PostEx worker, driver or rider scans the barcode on your parcel, the update is sent to the tracking system. When you know what happens at each step, it is easier to understand delays, guess when your parcel will come and be ready for cash on delivery.
Step 1: The seller books the order and hands it over
From your order to PostEx collecting the parcel.
It starts when the seller gets your order. They pack it in a flyer or box, then enter your name, address, phone number and COD amount in their PostEx Business Suite account.
This makes a tracking number and the first status: "Order Created" or "Booking Manifest Generated".
At this point the parcel is still with the seller. PostEx riders usually collect parcels from sellers in the afternoon. The rider scans each parcel, and the status changes to "Shipment Collected" or "Picked Up". Now PostEx has your parcel.
Step 2: The first sorting hub
Checking, weighing and sorting.
The parcel goes to a PostEx sorting hub in the seller’s city, such as Lahore or Karachi. When it arrives, the status changes to "Arrived at Origin Hub".
At the hub, parcels are weighed and measured. Staff scan the barcode to see which city the parcel is going to, and pack it with other parcels for the same route.
Step 3: Travelling between cities
The long trip by road.
If your parcel is going to another city, for example from a clothing seller in Lahore to a buyer in Karachi, Faisalabad or Islamabad, the status shows Line-Haul Transit phase.
The status displays "In Transit to Destination Hub". While it travels:
- The parcel goes by truck along the main roads.
- It stays packed inside the truck, so it is not scanned on the way.
- So the tracking stays the same until the parcel reaches the next hub. How long depends on the distance, the roads and the weather.
No new scan during this time is normal. It does not mean the parcel is lost.
Step 4: Your local delivery station
Arriving in your city and being given to a rider.
In your city, the parcel is unloaded and sent to the delivery station for your area. The status changes to "Arrived at Delivery Station".
At the station, parcels are sorted by area. When a rider scans your parcel onto their list for the day, the status changes to "Out for Delivery".
Step 5: Delivery and paying COD
The rider arrives, you pay, and the parcel is yours.
While the parcel is “Out for Delivery”, the rider works through their route. Riders often call before they arrive, to check someone is home and ready to pay.
When the rider arrives:
- Check the label shows your name and the right COD amount.
- Pay the cash in rupees.
- The rider scans the parcel to mark it as "Delivered", and the delivery is done.
Step 6: When delivery fails
If the rider cannot hand over the parcel, it is not lost. The tracking shows a Exception Flag.
Common reasons are a phone nobody answered, a gated area the rider could not enter, nobody at home, or no cash ready. Parcels that are not delivered usually go back to the local station, and PostEx then makes a second delivery attempt on a later working day.
If your tracking shows a problem, call PostEx customer care on (042) 111 786 227 to check your phone number and give them a nearby landmark.
Step 7: Going back to the seller
When the parcel is sent back.
If delivery fails more than once, or you refuse the parcel, the station marks it as "Return to Origin (RTO) Initiated".
The parcel is sent back to the seller’s city. When the seller receives it, the last status shows "Returned to Merchant". After that, PostEx’s job is done. For a new delivery or a refund, contact the seller.
What Tracking Can and Cannot Tell You
What You Can Infer:
- If the seller has handed the parcel to PostEx, or only printed a label.
- Which city or hub has your parcel now.
- If your parcel is due today (“Out for Delivery”).
- If the rider tried to deliver and ran into a problem.
What You Cannot Infer:
- A live map showing where the rider or truck is.
- The exact time the rider will arrive.
- How fast the truck is going or where it is stuck in traffic.
- Whether the item inside is in good condition or genuine.
