Why Cash on Delivery Can Be Hard for Sellers

Most online shopping in Pakistan is paid with cash on delivery (COD). COD helps sellers reach more buyers, but it can leave growing shops short of cash:

  • Working Capital Delays: Normally, the seller’s money is tied up while parcels are sorted, delivered and paid for.
  • Inventory Turnover Restrictions: Sellers cannot buy more stock or spend on advertising until the COD money reaches their bank account.
  • High Return Rates (RTO): When buyers refuse parcels or cannot be reached, the parcels come back, which costs money and leaves stock stuck on the road.

PostEx tries to solve this by offering both delivery and payment tools in its Business Suite.

What PostEx Offers Sellers

Online shops that work with PostEx can use four main services:

1. E-Commerce Parcel Delivery

Pickup from the seller’s warehouse, sorting at hubs, road travel between cities and delivery to the buyer’s door.

2. Cash on delivery (COD)

Collecting cash at the door, matching it to orders and giving sellers regular payment statements.

3. Payment on Delivery

A PostEx service that lets buyers pay at the door in ways other than cash, where it is offered. Ask PostEx which options are available for your account.

4. Returns

Trying delivery more than once before returning a parcel, to cut down on cancellations, and bringing returns back to the seller.

Getting Paid Early on COD Orders

One of the main things PostEx offers sellers is Upfront COD (also called seller growth capital).

Normally, a seller who sends parcels on Monday may not be paid until the parcels are delivered and the money reaches the bank.

With upfront COD, eligible sellers get half of each parcel’s cash value the next working day after pickup, and the rest when the parcel is delivered. This helps sellers pay suppliers and grow without waiting for every delivery.

Who can get it:

Upfront payments are not given to every seller automatically. PostEx looks at things like the seller’s sending history before deciding who is eligible, how much and on what terms. As an independent guide, we do not quote fees or terms. Ask PostEx’s sales team about the terms for your business.

Connecting Your Online Shop

If you send many orders every day, typing them in by hand leads to mistakes. The Business Suite can connect to your shop to save time:

  • Platform Connectors: Plugins for platforms such as Shopify and WooCommerce, so orders are booked with PostEx automatically.
  • Consignment Note Automation: Shipping labels with barcodes are made automatically when you fulfil an order.
  • Status Synchronization: Tracking updates flow back to your shop, so your support team can see where each parcel is.
  • Custom Application Integration: Shops with their own custom website can connect using the tools PostEx gives when the account is set up.

Note: PostEx gives out connection keys only when you open an account. We do not publish any keys or private details.

Card Payments With XPay

As well as delivery, PostEx offers XPay, an online payment gateway for shops in Pakistan.

With XPay, shops can take debit and credit card payments at checkout on their own website. Having both COD delivery and card payments from one company lets shops:

  • Let buyers choose between paying by card online or paying cash on delivery.
  • See card payments and cash collections together in one place.
  • Rely less on cash, which can mean fewer returns from buyers who do not have cash ready.

How an Order Moves Through the Business Suite, Step by Step

This is how an online shop uses the PostEx Business Suite from order to payment:

Step 1: The order is booked

A buyer places an order online. The order is sent to PostEx automatically through the shop connection, or the seller uploads a list of orders in the seller account.

Step 2: Labels and pickup list

The seller packs the item in a strong flyer, prints a PostEx label with a barcode and gets the list of parcels ready for pickup.

Step 3: Pickup and travel

PostEx collects the parcels from the seller’s warehouse. They are scanned at the first hub, sorted and sent by road to other cities.

Step 4: Delivery and payment

A rider delivers the parcel and collects the exact COD amount, or takes payment another way where Payment on Delivery is offered.

Step 5: Payment to the seller and returns

The money collected is paid to the seller on the schedule in their agreement, and parcels that could not be delivered go back to the seller.
